The Garden Hotel is the landmark circular building located along the edge of Gulab Bagh, a tree-lined and landscaped garden spread across acres in Udaipur. It is centrally located and a mere five minutes from the famous city palace. A heritage property, The Garden Hotel is managed by the HRH Group of Hotels. Interestingly, it has a very old, manually operated gas station on the premises (though it is no longer functional). More significantly, it has a vintage car museum with several cars which belong to the House of Mewar on display in the mornings and evenings at the Vintage Car Crescent which is actually the original palace garage restored. The line-up of cars is truly regal and includes Rolls Royce, Mercedes, Cadillac, MG, etc.
The rooms at the Garden Hotel are richly furnished with furniture that once adorned the Lake Palace Hotel while preserving the traditions of the property and are equipped with all the modern amenities that make for a comfortable stay. They even have rooms with four beds to accommodate the entire family.
In terms of food and beverage, the hotel has some noteworthy options. There is an indoor, purely vegetarian restaurant that serves a fabulous Rajasthani thali at even better prices (Rs. 125!). The second restaurant called the Courtyard accommodates candle-lit tables under a tree. The ambiance here, if permitted by the weather, can be quite pleasurable. The Courtyard is a restaurant-cum-bar and serves freshly cooked multi-cuisine options. The vegetarian Biryani served is quite a pleasant surprise. The only drawback of the Courtyard is the pricing, especially when compared to the spectacular thali served at the other restaurant. They also have a third, more exclusive dining option at The Vintage Car Crescent, used only for special sit-down dinners and formal banquets. All in all, if you want to enjoy a decent meal in a pretty location, The Garden Hotel, known for its authentic ethnic cuisine is a good bet.
Keeping environmental concerns in mind, the Garden Hotel also offers a good collection of solar bicycles, solar scooters, and solar rickshaws for discerning guests to hire!
Though the Garden Hotel is not the epitome of luxury, it has a unique charm that makes it attractive to all. The serenity of the surroundings, the warmth and grace of all HRH staff, and finger-licking ethnic food make at least a meal at the Garden Hotel a must when you visit Udaipur.
